Overtime Calculator — Complete Guide & Instructions

MakeCard Overtime Calculator converts your monthly basic salary into an hourly rate, then prices your overtime at the multiplier you choose. Enter basic pay, hours per day and working days per month — the tool derives the hourly rate, applies a 1×, 1.5× or 2× OT multiplier and shows OT pay per shift plus a monthly total. Useful for factory workers, HR staff and anyone verifying an overtime line on a payslip.

How to Use Overtime Calculator

  4. 4 Choose the "OT Multiplier" — 1.5× normal OT, 2× double/holiday or 1× same-rate.

Practical Everyday Use Cases

  • Verifying the OT amount printed on a factory or warehouse payslip.
  • Estimating monthly earnings before agreeing to extra shifts.
  • HR and payroll staff cross-checking overtime batches before processing.
  • Comparing 1.5× weekday OT against 2× holiday OT for planning.
  • Contract workers checking whether quoted OT rates match their basic pay.

Pro Tips for Best Results

  • Use basic salary only — HRA, DA and allowances are normally excluded from the OT base rate.
  • The Factories Act, 1948 sets OT at twice the ordinary rate — choose 2× when checking statutory compliance.
  • Some employers compute hourly rate on 26 days rather than 30 — check your appointment letter's convention.
  • Leave "OT Days" blank to see pay per OT day; fill it in to project the month.

Common Problems & Solutions

Check whether you entered gross salary instead of basic — OT is priced on basic pay, which is lower than gross.

The divisor is days × hours. Enter actual scheduled hours (e.g. 8) and working days (e.g. 26), not the OT hours, in the schedule fields.

The calculator prices what you select. If your shop-floor agreement says 1.5× but law says 2×, run both multipliers to see the difference.
